It is just one month until hae day :-), which will take place on May 16 2012. The first international awareness day for Hereditary Angioedema, hae day :-) aims to raise awareness of HAE among the general public and medical community, with the objective of creating an environment in which there is better care, earlier and more accurate diagnosis and knowledge that patients can lead a healthy life.

As the day approaches, everyone is encouraged to spread the word and get involved. An easy way to participate is haeday.org’s Cover the world with smiles campaign. More smiles are being submitted every day, yet there is plenty of room for more on our interactive map. Comments can be added to smiles and many people choose to express their support for the worldwide HAE community.

Organizing events for hae day :-) is another way to spread HAE awareness, as well as raise funds for the national member organizations that work with patients every day. You can add to the events already listed on haeday.org using the upload form. Existing plans include a fundraising poker game, a mass photography session and a Walk-a-Thon.

There are plenty of other resources on haeday.org to help you participate. For example, you can download the hae day :-) logo and brand elements, as well as a set of tools intended to assist national member organizations with campaigns and local awareness activity.

It is simple to keep up to date with the countdown to hae day :-) by checking haeday.org regularly. You can also join the conversation, and tell us what you have got planned in advance of May 16, through our Facebook and Twitter profiles.
